Princeton in France

Princeton in France (PIF) is a unique internship opportunity in Aix-en-Provence open to students enrolled in FRE 207F. Administered through the International Internship Program (IIP) in partnership with the Department of French and Italian, PIF internships are 4 weeks, and their goal is to introduce students to French culture and prioritize the cultural immersion experience.

Students enrolled in FRE 207F will automatically have the option to apply for a Princeton in France internship in Aix-en-Provence, which would immediately follow the 207F program. However, participation in the additional 4-week internship program is not a requirement for FRE 207F, nor is an internship guaranteed.

Application Process

Students interested in Princeton in France must:

  1. Review available internship options for summer 2023.
  2. Apply to FRE-207F, where they can indicate their intention to pursue a PIF internship. There is no separate application for the Princeton in France internship.
  3. Indicate their top internship choices within the FRE-207F application and write cover letter for each preferred internship. Students may choose to apply to up to three internships. IIP will place students in the most appropriate internship available and attempt to honor their preferences.

History and Purpose

Every summer since 1954, Princeton in France (PIF) has sent Princeton undergraduates to France to intern in a variety of organizations. The mission of the PIF program is to introduce students to French culture in a professional environment. Students work side by side with French colleagues, speaking their language and sharing their daily routine. Participants undergo a maturing experience, rich in educational benefits, and often have one of the best, and most memorable, summers of their lives.

PIF is able to provide limited financial assistance for participants in part through the generosity of the Department of French & Italian; The American Society of the French Legion of Honor; The Bennett E. Tousley, Jr. Memorial Fund; Charles H. Moore, Class of 1931, Memorial Fund; The David J. Stainton '84 Fund for Princeton in France; The Kemper Foundation; The Kirby Family Foundation; The Scott Opler Foundation Fund; and PIF alumni and friends.
