The MRC CBU is a research center focusing on improving well-being, consisting of many of researchers across approximately 15 labs. I worked in the lab of Dr. Tim Dalgleish who leads the Cognition, Emotion and Mental Health Program. This lab tries to understand affective disorders, including mood, anxiety and stress related disorders and develop treatments for these disorders. The MRC CBU is a unique research center because it consists of researchers across multiple discipline who learn from each other and collaborate with one another and have access to state of the art research facilities.
For my internship, I conducted research worked on two projects relating to mental health, one about predictors of childhood PTSD, and the other on emotional awareness and its relation to mental health. I processed and analyzed data, conducted literature reviews, and wrote research proposals and papers. In my free time, I visited a historical tea garden outside of Cambridge, which was incredible. Along with my British housemates ,I explored the UK, visiting beautiful cities, going to many museums, and eating lots of delicious food!
