Bio/Description

This summer, I interned at the Laboratory of Cancer Cell Biology at Seoul National University's Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics. As a part of Korea’s most prestigious public university, the School of Biological Sciences dedicated to undergraduate and graduate education, and also plays a prominent role in advancing research in diverse subfields within Molecular Biology. The Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics (IMBG) specifically is dedicated to advancing biomedical research.

I worked in the Laboratory of Cancer Cell Biology where research investigating the molecular mechanisms of BRCA2-mutated cancers is conducted. The results of the investigations of this lab are important to the advancement of an understanding of BRCA2-mutated cancers, but can also be applied to the development of diagnostic tools and treatments for these types of cancers.

I learned a lot about the research process and was able to apply various concepts and experimental techniques that I had studied at Princeton to a real project. In addition, I was able to form strong relationships and have meaningful conversations about Molecular Biology research with my mentor, supervisor, and fellow lab members. Outside of my internship, I really enjoyed exploring Seoul and traveling to Gyeongju and Busan! Other local activities that I participated in were a temple stay, tea classes, an outdoor library, and I visited local traditional markets.
