Hi! I’m Lucia, a senior in the comparative literature department with a minor in translation and intercultural communication. I studied abroad in Paris in spring 2024 with CUPA, which meant I was living with a host family and was directly enrolled in two French universities (Paris 8 and the Sorbonne). In my free time, I joined the Sorbonne’s sand volleyball practices and challenged myself to only read in French on the metro. I loved having the opportunity to fully immerse myself in French language and culture, and my language skills increased dramatically. Thanks to the French university system’s multiple spring breaks, I also had the opportunity to travel all over Europe during my semester—the photo above is on a bridge in Prague! I’ve pursued study abroad opportunities throughout my time at Princeton, both through Princeton programs and independently with university funding. After my freshman year (summer 2022), I did a 6-week Global Seminar in Azerbaijan, which I followed with an Estonian language course funded by the Russian, Eastern European, and Eurasian Studies department. I took another language course in January 2023, then used a Martin A. Dale ‘53 award in summer 2023 to follow the development of a new railroad through the Baltic States. I have grown so much as a learner during my time abroad, and the relationships I have developed with both Princeton and non-Princeton students will stay with me forever. Going to Princeton is such a privilege, and I believe that Princeton-supported time abroad is part of that privilege! If you’re interested in studying abroad during the summer or winter, in place of or in addition to a semester, please reach out!
