I spent this summer as an R&D intern at Transkribus. Transkribus is a software cooperative company that creates digitization/transcription tools for historical documents. As part of my day-to-day work, I read academic papers on new approaches to transcription and metadata extraction, and implemented those methods in ways that adapted them to historical handwritten documents. I conducted Transkribus's first experiments with categorizing Arabic and Persian texts, including calligraphy, and I was able to develop new text recognition models for handwritten Portuguese and Greek.
Outside of work, I had the opportunity to explore the Nordkette mountain range on the north side of the city and visit the picturesque Alpine villages to the south and west of the city.
