International Experience: Hertford College, University of Oxford
Location: Oxford, UK
My name is Jonathan Alicea, and I hail from Jackson, New Jersey (about 30 minutes south of Princeton). I am concentrating in English while pursuing certificates in Linguistics and Theater. In the Spring of 2019, I studied at Hertford College, University of Oxford. There I took tutorials in a variety of topics ranging from Shakespeare's Histories to Modern British Drama to Syntax. Reflecting back on my Study Abroad experience, I can absolutely say that I developed and grew in ways that surprised me (but that were for the best!). Studying in a different country and university gave me a newfound confidence as a student/scholar and individual – from acclimating to a new cultural and academic environment, to putting myself out there to meet other students, and trying not to get lost while navigating around Oxford and the UK, I was thoroughly challenged and forced outside my comfort zone. Although Princeton does have a ton of resources on campus, the opportunity to study in a foreign country is itself a resource that everyone should certainly take advantage of! You never know - You may just discover something new and inspiring that you cannot find over here.
