Returning Home

Now that you have returned from your summer abroad, we are excited to help you build upon your international internship experience and hope you want to share that experience with others. Here are some ways to get started:

After your Internship

As part of your IIP agreement, our office asks students to complete the following post-internship action items. If you have any questions about these, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

  • PowerPoint presentation: All students should complete a short PowerPoint presentation about their overall international experience. These presentations are due within 2 weeks of arrival on campus for the fall term. You will receive the link to upload your PowerPoint presentation in late August.
  • Thank you letters: Please complete your thank you note for donors within the first month of returning to campus for the fall term. You will receive a reminder from the IIP office in early September.

Sharing your Experience

There are many ways to reflect and build on your IIP experience back on campus. If you have ideas that are not listed below, we would love to hear about them.

  • Be a mentor: As an IIP ambassador, you will discuss the highlights and challenges of your international internship with your peers and encourage them to apply to the program.
  • Volunteer to attend OIP events: We rely on students to help us spread the word about IIP to undergraduate students, as well as prospective students and their families. Attending events like Princeton Preview, Tiger Tuesday, and the Study Abroad Fair, is a great way to share your personal experience with others.
  • Enter OIP’s International Eye Photo Contest: OIP sponsors a photo contest for all Princeton undergraduates who have studied, worked, volunteered, or done research abroad in the past year. Enter photos from your IIP for a chance to win cash prizes and a showcase in the Louis A. Simpson International Building.

Go Abroad Again

  • Study Abroad: The Study Abroad Program offers a number of academic opportunities abroad. Students can study abroad during the fall or spring semester, or during the summer. Meet with a study abroad adviser in the Office of International Programs for more information.
  • Apply for undergraduate or post-graduate fellowships: Many competitive fellowship programs favor students who have already developed a global perspective through travel and study. If you are interested in applying for a fellowship, you should meet with a fellowship adviser as early as possible.
  • Visit the Center for Career Development: The Center for Career Development offers a range of opportunities to help students explore and prepare for their future. Make an appointment with a career adviser or attend one of the office’s many workshops to learn how your international internship can contribute to your career goals.
